Coomera Town Medical Centre provide a safe and affordable mirena (IUD) insertion.
IUD or Intrauterine Device is a little plastic devices which are inserted inside the uterus that releases a small amount of hormone inside the uterus. It offers effective contraception that last for up to 5 years. Mirena has been a very popular form of birth control as it has a number of benefits:
The IUD inhibits the sperm movement and survival in the uterus (womb) so that they cannot reach the egg to fertilise it.
The IUD also changes the lining of the womb (endometrium) so that it is not suitable for pregnancy and prevents an egg – if it does become fertilised – from developing.
Only trained doctors can fit or insert the Mirena. After a gynecological examination, Mirena is fitted into the uterus using a thin, flexible plastic tube that is passed through your cervix. Once the insertion tube is removed, the threads from the base of Mirena will pass through the cervix and into the vagina and are cut to about 2 to 3 cm in length outside the cervix. Some women may find the procedure uncomfortable or painful. It is advisable to allow time for a short rest before you leave the clinic.
Dr. Seham Ayad has special interests in women’s health and are available for Mirena insertion at Coomera Town Medical Centre. A pre-insertion consultation is required to ensure that Mirena is the right choice for you and to discuss any questions you may have about the procedure.
